"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

FAQs

What are your services and prices? And how do I make an appointment?

You can find all services and prices listed here. To make an appointment visit the Contact Us page and fill in the form or email info@myriadcounselling.co.uk. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.

What happens at my first session?

I offer the option of a free initial consultation to let you judge whether you feel comfortable working with me before committing to the service. Your initial session is an opportunity for us to discuss your situation and for you to identify your goals for therapy. I’ll introduce the service to you and outline what you can expect, cover our confidentiality policy as well as payment options for sessions.

Can I make an evening appointment? Or can you accommodate my changing shift-pattern?

Yes, I offer daytime and evening appointments to fit with your requirements, including a changing work schedule. We’ll discuss your scheduling preferences when booking your initial appointment.

How long will I be in therapy for?

Your time in therapy isn’t limited to a maximum number of sessions, but rather we will work together to determine what feels right. At regular intervals, we conduct a review of your progress and collaborate on when feels like an appropriate time to end.

Do I need to make a commitment to therapy?

If you decide to pursue therapy, clients are asked to commit to an initial number of sessions, often six or twelve. You don’t need to pay for the sessions in advance. This just lets us establish a helpful plan, identify the goals you have for therapy and specify the type of work best suited to meeting those goals. This plan can be changed as time goes on, and we have regular reviews to make sure we are on track.

I am not sure if my problem is bad enough to justify coming to see you. Who is therapy for?

There is no objective measure of 'good' or 'bad' in terms of people's problems, and therapy can help with a wide variety of issues. What’s important is how something makes you feel. If you feel bad, for whatever reason, or feel stuck like you don’t know how to move forward, you could find engaging in a course of therapy will give you the support you need.

Why might I find Group Therapy helpful?

In group therapy, clients with similar backgrounds or concerns have the opportunity to share their experiences and support each other. Group therapy allows clients to learn from others’ experiences, share their own story, and feel less alone. Being part of an empathic, supportive group can be an immensely powerful and healing experience for many who have found it difficult to connect or open up about their struggles. Typically, a group will be between 5-8 people including myself as group facilitator.

Is online or telephone therapy really as effective as in-person sessions?

Yes. There is a growing body of evidence that supports the use of remote therapy sessions as being comparatively effective as traditional in-person therapy. The experience is certainly different between online, telephone and in-person therapies, but the upshot of the move towards remote working is that therapy has become more flexible, convenient, and accessible than ever before.
